I’m a classic Kiwi kid born in the small town of Feilding, New Zealand. 

I grew up doing all the stuff Kiwi kids did in the 90’s. You know - climbing trees, roller blading, eating fish ’n’ chips and spending way too much time on the PS1.

I wasn’t especially good at any sports, or anything in particular, but I loved a bit of rugby and had a keen passion for hunting (I know, the vegan coach who was a hunter!).

Leaving school I knew I had one bucket list to tick off: Join the military.

After 5 years serving with the New Zealand Army, travelling the world and shooting a bunch of guns, I had fallen in love with training and nutrition and sought to leverage this passion as a career.

You see I wasn’t born with especially gifted genetics for muscle gain or staying super lean.

But I knew through discipline (something the Army teaches pretty damn well) and a thirst for any decent information I could get my hands on, I could build a physique I was proud of.

Fast forward a few years, well into my new profession as a qualified personal trainer and gym owner in Auckland, I found myself questioning the ways we produce and source our food. 

I had a passion for hunting, and animal protein was the cornerstone of my diet for muscle gain, but I could not turn a blind eye to the impact our food choices have on the lives of billions of sentient beings.

Surely there was another way to eat while still putting on muscle and strength?

I wanted to live in a way that reduces my impact on the world, and it’s non-human inhabitants.


The solution was obvious

A seed had been planted and my transition to pescetarian, vegetarian and ultimately vegan lifestyle was in motion. But what did that mean for my training? Did I lose weight? Strength? How about the muscle I had trained so hard to gain? 

Like I said, I’m just your average guy with average genetics, and I worked my butt off to build my body. I had to find a way to limit my impact while not limiting my gains.

My goal was simple: Lead by example and show that through evidence based nutrition principles and simple daily habits we can do away with outdated vegan stereotypes, and instead not just survive on a vegan diet, but build lean muscle, gain strength, improve blood lipids and thrive in a way that is working with our planet, not against it.

I ventured out to launch the Vegan Body Coach Podcast in order to bring a more rational, evidence based conversation to the table of vegan nutrition and training.

After completing my nutrition qualifications with Mac Nutrition University and with a few years as a healthy, strong and fit vegan human under my belt I ventured out to launch the Vegan Body Coach Podcast in order to bring a more rational, evidence based conversation to the table of vegan nutrition and training.

Now with over 15,000 downloads worldwide and featuring guests such as Dr. Melanie Joy, Dr. Eric Helms, and local vegan bodybuilder Chris Tan, the podcast continues to be a resource of high quality information and practical takeaways for listeners around the world. 

In between walking my beautiful mix breed dog Trooper, my own training, podcasting and travel, I spend my time coaching people just like you to own their nutrition, master the fundamentals of lifting and build their best vegan body yet.
